Last Week in Ed 270

I have enjoyed learning about technology in this class. But my favorite part has been making my own website. I never thought I could do it, but I did. And even more than that, I created a website that I really like and am proud of. I chose to do a website on environmental sustainability. And I think I learned about as much about that as I did about how to make my website in general. I am totally going to visit my own website because it rocks. I look forward to being able to share it and more technology with my friends and with my classrooms in the future.

Coding with WordPress

I had always thought that wordpress was just a blog site. And I’m not really big into blogging so it really didn’t interest me that much. I had no idea you could create a website using wordpress. Its super user friendly and really walked me though the steps and all their labels are very easy to understand and pretty much self explanatory. I liked it a lot. I think students could use this to make a website for a project to share with the class sort of like what we are doing. I also think that it would be great to use to create a website specifically for your class. With a place for the syllabus, schedule updates, what to bring to class, articles to read, etc. I especially think it could be a great way for parents to keep up to date and in touch with their kids education. You could create a password protected page for the parents or for each parent individually so the teacher could send out progress reports and important thing for parents to know etc.

Hour of Code Week 8

We talked about how hour of code got really popular really fast, but I can honestly say that I had never heard of it before today. Maybe that’s because I’m just blind to things around me or maybe its because I wasn’t raised in a family where things like that were of importance. Anyhow, I totally loved hour of code! It debunked a lot of myths for me. Yes, sometimes I still struggled, but I was always able to figure it out. I couldn’t believe that it was something that was accessible by me. And the most fun thing for me was, it just felt like I was playing games. I thought it would be boring but I was so wrong. If I hadn’t been told that I would be writing code I would have probably just thought that I was playing some cool games on the internet. And I think thats a big selling point for students. They can totally get into it. There was a bunch of different things to use for coding and so there’s literally something for everybody.

Adventures in mobile learning

Learning how to create an app, even outside of class is amazing. Students have endless possibilities for learning and creativity and learning to create with this tool. I as a teacher can also make apps to have my students look at to learn the information I want to teach them. They can learn in an individual and fun way and may encode the learning more.

Adventures in Podcasting

I LOVE listening to Podcasts in my spare time. For me, its like being able to be a part of a conversation without actually having to contribute. Podcasts are an entertaining way to think about moral lessons, convey and learn information, and just to get someone else’s perspective on every day things. I never thought that I myself could make a podcast. But its so so much simpler than I ever imagined. I am excited to potentially make some podcasts in the future. I think that some students could use this to present information if they are too afraid to talk in front of class.

Ed 270 Week 5

Hoax or Real? Some of them were very hard to tell but I think that its an important lesson to learn. Students today need to know what they can trust and what they cannot. I learned that many things that look reliable may not actually be that way at all. The eight guidelines are extremely helpful and could be use to promote internet literacy and citizenship.

Adventures with Ipads & and the Trailer

Ipads in the classroom is an adventure I’d like to follow. Many uses and children can go on an adventure of their own every day in the classroom. Squirrel and Pizza in Love was a lovely adventure and I hope to make a new one soon. I wasn’t aware that trailers were a thing. Its brand new adventure and one totally worth it to learn. I also am excited for my 30 second video on correct word usage. More adventures await me in a week. For now, adios… I’m gonna go use an Ipad

Adventuring In Photoshop

Making things appear as they are not. Useful to show children what power they hold. Be careful what you post and be careful what you edit. Things are not what they appear. Use a video to engage create a platform for new learning and students will engage. Let them handle the delicate camera. Use it as a tool. Have some fun and learn a lot. Choose what you can and cannot do. A powerful message can be sent in video form and thats what I intend to do. Get voices from the public compile and share.

Adventures in Tech Week 2

Waking up sleepy and not expecting much. Come to see it was more than I could imagine! Opening with an imagination exercise awakened parts of me that were dormant before and excited me in my success! (100% on the activity!) Fake or real could anyone tell, not from where I was sitting. Back of the class can’t see past the table in front of me. My future students will be analytical and challenge what is real and what is not. How fast pictures get around the internet when posted, careful to not be exposed. Photoshop is tool, a weapon, a masterpiece. Cultivating its use is wonderful for me. When you think you know, you truly do not know. In my classroom pictures will be everyone and I want to use it to stimulate creativity. Manipulation is what I think of. Are you responsible or are you destructive? Powerful new tools bring powerful new responsibilities…

My 1st Adventure in Ed 270

Walking into a classroom at the oddest location on campus. Behind some building, next to a parking lot, halfway underground and you find the door. The creepier you can imagine it the better. I came in tired and my curiosity was low. A Friday class with work after, you can only imagine. Today we talked and introduced for what seemed like hours. I learned a lot of people’s “something special”. Fast forward to 10:30. I was done and only halfway through. Computers and technology are not my thing but here they are everything. I learned Wed 2.0 but I was ready to be out. Went to break and came back with a fresh mind. Learned about a few new websites and a found a cool site about games in the classroom and worksheets that are printable to. My final thought are only slightly better than at first, but with that glimmer of light, I will survive.
